In the surroundings of ‘El Balcón de los Olivos’ you can enjoy numerous places of interest such as museums, historical areas, archaeological sites, cycling and hiking trails.

NATURAL PARK OF THE SIERRAS SUBBÉTICAS

The Sierras Subbéticas, included in the European and World Geoparks network and endorsed by UNESCO since 2006 due to their geological interest, emerged from the seabed during Alpine folding.

caliphate route

This is the old road that linked Cordoba and Granada in the Middle Ages, specifically during the Caliphate and Nasrid periods. It was one of the busiest roads in the Iberian Peninsula during the Middle Ages as it was travelled by merchants from all over the world.

ARCHAEO-LOGICAL MUSEUM

The Municipal Archaeological Museum of Zuheros was inaugurated on 14th August 1992. It displays archaeological remains from the excavations of the cave carried out during the years 1991-1992, as well as other remains from sites located in the municipality.

In the Museum of Customs and Popular Arts of Juan Fernández Cruz, exhibits a collection with more than 3000 pieces that will transport you to the customs and traditions of Zuheros.

The Cueva de la Encantada is a museum located in the Pl. de España, in the charming village of Luque. It is a 40-metre deep cave in the town centre, in which different scenes of  Neolithic and Chalcolithic schematic painting are represented, which appeared in different caves and covachas in the town.

CAVE

Situated at the top of the mountain, behind Zuheros, it stands out for the very important archaeological site it contains. Declared a Natural Monument and an Asset of Cultural Interest, it is deservedly famous for the beauty of its limestone formations, cave paintings and human remains.

The Museum-Studio houses a fundamentally surrealist work, made up of drawings, paintings and sculpture; located 800 metres from Zuheros, in the old house of the Guard who guarded the level crossing of the Oil train.

zuheros castle

It is a fortified structure built during the Muslim domination in the 9th century, located on the top of a cliff as part of the town centre. It offers outstanding views of the Subbética region and the castle can be seen from the Vía Verde de la Subbética.

The Vía Verde del Aceite runs for 57.3 km through olive groves and vineyards in the south of the province of Cordoba, following the route of the old Olive Oil Train. Through the disused railway lines of the Sierra Subbética, formerly used by the Oil Train, you can travel through the interior of Andalusia on cycling and hiking routes.

bailón river route 

This is one of the most beautiful and most visited routes in the Subbética, with an approximate duration of 5 hours. It starts 1 km before the Ermita de la Virgen de la Sierra de Cabra. Along this route, we cross the limestone massif of the Sierra de Cabra, which accompanies the River Bailón from its source until it reaches the Guadalquivir Depression, to the north of Zuheros.
